Culture Days Celebration Coming to Clayton Community Centre

Celebrate the richness of arts and culture with a free family-focused, all-ages event coming to Clayton Community Centre on September 23 from 1-5pm.

Surrey, B.C. –Celebrate the richness of arts and culture with a free family-focused, all-ages event coming to Clayton Community Centre on September 23 from 1-5p.m.

Culture Days at Clayton Community Centre invites the public to take part in a variety of interactive activities that celebrate culture by creating and sharing art. Make ink prints using LEGO bricks, have fun with yarn to share stories and create connections across generations and cultures, enjoy a special theatre show made for toddlers, grab lunch at the food truck, and so much more.

“We are thrilled to partner with our local artists and makers for a day of exploration, creation and connection as we embrace the beauty of our community,” said Kim Drabyk, Manager of Community Arts Clayton.”

Local piano technician George Klassen will be onsite painting his upcycled canoe ‘Middle Sea,’ which is made from three pianos destined for the landfill. Apart from the fibreglass shell, nearly the entire canoe is made of old piano parts, including ivory key tops, wood handles and soundbar material.

Visitors can also experience Yarn Around – a unique blend of knitting and dance, with visual arts and music. The workshop kicks off at 1 p.m. in Clayton’s Community Living Room with finger knitting, pompom making and storytelling with Foolish Operations and Surrey Libraries. At 3 p.m., move to Clayton’s Performing Arts Studio for percussion and dance workshops with Foolish Operations dancers and musicians.
